Smokers have many questions when it comes to Vaping and there are lots of reasons why smokers don’t try Vaping to QUIT smoking, but here at Hale Vaping, we want the best for our customers and potential customers. We had a think about these concerns and hopefully, the answers we found in these studies should help to reassure any smokers considering making the switch from tobacco to vape.
Main reasons smokers have not tried Vaping.
ASH (Action on Smoking & Health) 2020
[1] “I do not want to substitute one addiction for another.”
This misconception is one of the biggest reasons that smokers give for not trying Vaping, and it is a really valid concern – until you realise, cigarettes were manipulated to increase addictiveness, they were loaded with chemical compounds for precisely this reason. These chemicals power the nicotine delivery of the smoke to produce a reinforcing effect in the brain, that makes users want more nicotine more often. Ammonia is also added to cigarettes, to create a form of nicotine that is more desirable, and more addictive to the user. By changing the chemistry of the nicotine that the smoker absorbs, ammonia supercharges the nicotine as it hits the brain. Cigarettes are capable of delivering more nicotine to the brain more rapidly than any e cigarette.
We can’t simply compare the nicotine content of a cigarette to the nicotine content in an e-cigarette. Hale Vaping liquids are only made with pharmaceutical or food grade ingredients, they do not have the harmful chemical compounds or ammonia used within the tobacco industry.
Also, the Nicotine content in Vaping is a lot lower than cigarettes. Even the highest nicotine strength of an e-liquid, 20mg per ml, only equals 200mg in a 10ml bottle; Vaping experts suggest that a 10ml bottle is the equivalent of 200 cigarettes, so even if half that and say it is equal to 100 cigarettes, that is hugely less than the nicotine content of 100 tobacco cigarettes – 200 g versus 1,020mg … swapping Vaping for Smoking makes sense in terms of cutting addiction to tobacco cigarettes.
[2] “I am concerned they are not safe enough.”
Over 420 studies have been conducted over the last few years by Public Health England, a well-respected government health body and their guidance is clear; Vaping is at the very least, 95% less harmful than smoking. Again, this is based on the fact that Vaping does not have any chemicals, tobacco, tar and is non combustible, where smoking is combustible.
This is a great video from the leading experts in the area of tobacco harm reduction about the safety of Vaping compared to smoking – it is worth a watch:

[3] “I do not think they would help me to quit or cut down.”
Another very common misconception and also quite valid at first glance, however, the Irish government have looked into this and we can see that in 2019, 39% of smokers who QUIT used Vaping to do so.
In fact, a number of studies over the last few years were reviewed by a UK Health analysis team and the evidence demonstrated clearly that vaping is 70% more effective at helping people to QUIT Smoking than other Nicotine Replacement Treatments (Patches/Gums).
[4] “They cost too much.”
We all know Cigarettes are expensive; if someone smokes a pack a day, this will cost them about €5000 per year. Vaping on the other hand, is a MUCH cheaper; the approximate cost of the equivalent of a pack a day for a year is €700! That is a saving of €4,300! The reasons given in the ASH report are valid concerns regarding switching from smoking to Vaping and it right that you investigate and make an informed decision on the best way to QUIT; however, we here at Hale Vaping, believe that the evidence demonstrates that Vaping is substantially safer, less addictive and much less expensive than tobacco smoking and that it is a really effective aide to help you QUIT SMOKING.
